This days so many people have long distance relationship, because their work, study or some other reason. Some of them meet once a week, some may be months or year :( With technology this day, separate couple still can be in touch and create communication, witch cell phone, instant messenger, etc.
Long Distance Relationship is right?
A couple can get in touch with technology this day and because of some reasons they can't be in one place at the same time. This kind relationship really hard if we don't have trust for our partner. Trust is the key for a long term relationship.
This kind relationship is not about how you trust your partner, but more than that you need to be more stronger because your partner is not on your side. When you have some problem you can ask your partner to be your side just in one moment because she/he must go to your place from miles away.
Is it fair to leave your partner alone?
Relationship between you and your partner may be more than a good friendship because you'll help your partner if they have a problem. But with a long distance relationship you can't be at her/his side every time If you have a strong and independent partner I think its really help, if she/he is not kind of person. Is it fair to leave your partner alone?
I think if we have a choice we will avoid this kind of relationship. Long distance relationship, because our partner need us every time, every minutes, every second.

Always make time for the two of you. Create moments where we can spend more time together.

Once, a friend asked me an important question. Are you happy with your marriage? WOW! This is a simple question but really hard to answer this question. He is going to married soon and he really need to know about marriage. He said he really need to know about marriage before he join the club, lol!

I said I'm happy with my marriage. I love to spend my time with my wive and daughter. I said, yes sometimes we fight, arguing, etc but we can keep the happiness together. I said, the key is your willingness. We met a new person, a stranger. Now she or he become the part of our day.

I said if we can understand our wive or husband, the marriage will last long and happy, try to get to know better your wive/husband. What he like or what she hate. Having the same vision about the family's future and how to get the goal together is one way to help you to get a happy marriage.

Having a wive/husband means you are already have a decision to share everything, with a wive/husband you can share what ever you want to share without worrying that she/he will betray you in the future. You can share everything and one more is take your place and put she/he on her/his place.

I'm sure you will get a happy marriage if you trust your partner and willing to spend your time in a happy journey, you'll get one.

Our homes generally set the trend for forthcoming wedding colour schemes along with the seasonal catwalk trends in current fashion styles.

And so the question on every bride & wedding planner's lips is, 'What will be the hot wedding colour trends for 2009?'

2007 and 2008 have seen our brides showcasing the following colour trends; Soft Greens with White, Lilac with Purple tones, Chocolate Brown and anything in Monochrome Black & White. These colours have been so popular and may still continue into 2009 weddings & events, though an explosion in fresher, brighter colours is more likely.

In contrast to the softer more subtle shades of last year, the forthcoming trends for 2009 will be far more exotic, brightly coloured and - believe it or not - almost luminous! Before you begin planning your wedding and reception take the time to sit down with your fiancée and categorize the top five items, or services that is a must for your wedding day. Guest List: Guests do not come cheap

Receptions being the most costly due to catering services, and the hall size most of both these services charge per-person prices. The best advise is to limit the guests you have per how long your reception will be. For example, if you had 150 guest and you want to greet everyone individually for a minute each you would need 2hrs and 30mins. Remember this does not include other activities, like dancing, eating, tossing the garter, cutting the cake, etc.

Another way to determining how many guests is to just invite close family and friends that you enjoy being with.

Invitations: Getting the word out
Anyone can make invitations. Do-it-yourself can save money and show everyone how skilled you are. You can even add a personalized touch to each. You can make them on the computer with software and pastel colored printing paper, or even handwrite with a gold pen and stationary; the possibilities are endless, be creative. If you lack creativity or don’t have time, call around to get price quotes, everyone prices differently. The higher priced one may be nicer but if this is not a top priority buy the cheaper ones. Your guests should not care if you send them a plain white invitation instead of the custom one shaped like a bride. Your guests will more than likely just write the date on the calendar and throw away the invitation anyways.
To save money on purchased invitations:
Purchase thermographed print instead of getting the invitations engraved. Thermography is raised print were as engraved is indented, however they look and feel the same.

Other ways to save:
If everyone has email or most have email then you could email invitations. The ones without email send an invitation by mail.

Of all your wedding decisions, selecting the perfect gown is often the most exciting. It's not every day you can dress like royalty and be the center of attention. As with any important purchase, however, you should go shopping armed with advice.
At most bridal salons, you get some consultation just by walking in the door. Take advantage of the information you receive. The consultant will be able to offer suggestions on fit and style based on your age and body type. A wedding gown may look wonderful in a magazine, and many do, but it may not look good on you.

Tip 1: Schedule your wedding "off-season."

Nearly 70% of all weddings take place between May and October of each year. You will probably find yourself able to get better deals on virtually every wedding service if you schedule your wedding in one of the "off season" months. I would suggest setting the date for sometime between October and mid November and between January and May (avoiding Valentine’s Day, when the flower prices peak). On setting up your wedding date off-peak, you will find yourself in a fantastic bargaining position and you will be able to get deals with virtually every vendor!

Tip 2: Cut down on your food and drinks bill

The easiest way to cut down on your food and drinks bill is to cut down on your guest list. It may be painful, but the simple truth is that there is no quicker, easier way to control your budget than by limiting the size of the event. Again, your single biggest cost will be reception food and alcohol, so you can reduce that expenditure by paring down the number of mouths. Remember: Single guests who are not in a serious relationship can be invited solo. Also you may invite parents only; and you need not invite anyone who you have not been in contact with in the last five years, even if they invited you to their wedding.

Tip 3: Buy a non-bridal gown
Bridal gowns aren’t the only white dresses in the world. It may be that the perfect wedding dress for you is not found in a bridal salon, but among the women’s evening wear section of a department store (try the sale rack!). Likewise, if you are having a civil ceremony, many venues have got a hall, where you could hold the reception. By doing that, you will not need to buy arrival drinks, as this is often bought for people while they are waiting for everyone to arrive.

Tip 6: Selecting your photographer
Instead of selecting a wedding photographer, you will be able to make a saving if you choose an amateur photographer who is about to go professional and requires experience. Obviously, make sure you look at his/her prior work before making your selection. Ask friends and family and you may be surprised who they know. Going to photography colleges may be a good starting point. 1. Sedini mungkin

Your hair, nails, makeup, dress - and how you look in that dress - are all part of becoming the bride you want to be on that special day. Since pictures taken on that day remain part of your life forever, it's important to look and feel your best.
Your dress is one of the most important items in your wedding plans, so make sure you take enough time to choose one that suits you - not your best friend, not your bridesmaids, and not your mother. For the day of your wedding, you'll want a dress in which you can stand, walk and dance in without worrying about "wardrobe malfunctions" or causing you discomfort. Allow necessary time if you decide on having the dress made, but even if bought "off the rack," you'll need to factor in time for tailoring and any adjustments.
You don't want to overpower your dress and headpiece with a flamboyant hair style or color that overwhelms everything else. Keep it simple and classic, and remember to practice the look you want at home or with your stylist before the wedding day.
Have your nails professionally manicured the day before the wedding. This is one thing you don't want to do far in advance. Reduce the chances of a broken nail, chipped polish, or if using applied nails, one coming off, by having your manicure as late as possible. If you are not inclined toward colored polishes or long fingernails, make sure they are neatly trimmed, filed, polished, and buffed. Don't gorge yourself the night before because we all know that there are strange forces at work which will try to make your wedding gown just a wee bit snug in the morning. To overcome excitement and nerves, try taking a long walk - it can help with pre-nuptial jitters. A relaxing bath with soothing background music, a cup of herbal tea, and you should be ready to doze off with images of a happy future marriage in your dreams.

Invitation Etiquette

Etiquette and tradition play an important role in preparing wedding invitations. Narrowing the guest list and assembling current addresses is just the beginning.

Invitations should be selected as soon as the date is set and the guest list is completed. Usually couples select them at least three to six months in advance to allow plenty of time for ordering, proofreading the text and addressing the invitations or hiring a calligrapher. Invitations should be mailed no later than four to six weeks before the wedding and up to eight weeks ahead for summer or holiday weddings, due to busy schedules.
The items you order for your invitation set should include the invitation itself, as well as several enclosures. The invitation announces the wedding couple and their sponsors. Of course, it also lets your guests know the date, time and location of the ceremony.

Enclosures are the small cards included with the invitation. They provide more detailed information than is available on the invitation itself. In addition to reception and response cards, you may have other types of enclosures such as pew cards, maps or "within the ribbons" cards. "Within the ribbons" or pew cards are primarily used for very formal weddings only. Pew cards are included in the invitation of guests of distinction, such as close family members and special friends. These guests present their cards upon arrival at the ceremony to receive their "within the ribbons" front row seating.

Map cards should be included for all the out-of-town guests who may have trouble finding the ceremony or reception site.

Invitations normally come with two envelopes, an inner and an outer. However, the more contemporary, square sizes usually only come with single outer envelopes. The outer envelope serves as the mailing vehicle, while the inner envelope protects the invitation. For added elegance, the inner envelopes may be enhanced with colored linings. Most inner envelopes won't have a gummed flap.

When writing your invitations, here are some key points to remember. Traditional British spelling is often used for words such as "honour and favour." Each line of the address should be centered for a balanced look. Courtesy titles such as Mr., Miss, or Mrs. are always used. The title Ms. should be reserved exclusively for business correspondence and should not be used on a wedding invitations. Military titles are handled by rank. Always spell out full names, (not nicknames or abbreviations) and dates, times and addresses are also spelled out.

Depending upon the number of enclosures, the size and weight of your invitations, extra postage may be required. It's a good idea to take one of your invitation ensembles (pre-stuffed) to the post office, so it can be weighed for the exact postage.

Here are a few additional pointers. It's customary to send an invitation to your minister, priest, or rabbi and their spouse. All children over the age of eighteen should receive their own separate invitation. Plan to order an additional 25 invitations to allow for the unexpected.

If your wedding is very small or private, you may want to send announcements to those friends and relatives you were unable to invite to the ceremony. Typically, announcements are sent immediately following the wedding and include the time and location of the ceremony. An "at home card" may accompany the announcement to inform friends and family of your new address and phone number.

Finally, you'll probably need a final guest count by two weeks prior to the ceremony, so you can notify your caterer. Some people put a number on the back of each response card, to correspond with the guest name on their master list. That way if the guest forgets to put their name on the response card, you can match up the name with the number on the list.

1. Gedung tak harus strategis
Tujuan diadakannya acara pernikahan di gedung adalah untuk mendapatkan ruangan yang cukup besar menampung semua tamu dan tidak repot menyiapkannya. Tidak perlu gedung yang lokasinya sangat strategis agar tamu mudah menjangkaunya, karena tamu undangan memang sudah berniat untuk datang dimanapun lokasinya. Untuk menghemat biaya gedung, lokasinya mungkin tidak usah yang dipinggir jalan utama, yang penting mudah dicari dan aksesnya jalannya baik. Tidak usah juga gedung yang terlihat mewah karena toh nantinya juga akan didekor. Yang penting bisa menampung semua tamu undangan yang hadir. Bahkan kalau bisa, pilih gedung yang tidak komersil, dalam arti tidak disewakan secara khusus untuk mengadakan acara-acara tertentu. Mungkin Anda pernah menghadiri sebuah acara pernikahan di mesjid, gedung olah raga, atau mungkin balai warga di lingkungan rumahnya. Saya rasa tidak diterapkan tarif komersil untuk acara tersebut. Kalaupun harus membayar uang sewa, Anda tidak diharuskan memilih katering dan dekorasi dari rekanan pengelola yang tarifnya lebih mahal.

2. Di rumah pun bisa lebih indah
Acara pernikahan yang baik tidak harus di tempat yang mewah, rumah sendiri pun bisa disulap menjadi tempat acara yang indah. Ingat, faktor pertama yang mempengaruhi besar atau kecilnya biaya adalah tempat. Pernikahan di rumah sendiri bisa menghemat banyak pos pengeluaran seperti untuk sewa tempat dan katering. Bahkan di rumah pun bisa lebih indah, tinggal bagaimana kita mengaturnya saja. Kalau punya halaman luas, Anda bisa memasang tenda tertutup yang bisa menampung banyak tamu. Memang akan lebih mahal daripada tenda biasa yang terbuka, tapi tentunya masih lebih murah daripada menyewa gedung.

3. Bijak memilah undangan
Faktor kedua yang menentukan besar atau kecilnya biaya pernikahan adalah jumlah undangan. Kalau Anda dibatasi oleh kuota jumlah undangan, pilih dengan baik siapa saja yang akan diundang. Mulai dari yang terdekat, baru kemudian yang jauh. Dekat bisa dalam arti hubungan dan dekat dalam arti tempat tinggal. Kalau Anda mengadakan acara akad nikah dan resepsi yang terpisah, hal ini bisa menyiasati banyaknya tamu yang diundang. Sedangkan sisanya yang tidak tinggal dekat dengan rumah bisa diundang untuk menghadiri resepsinya di gedung.

4. Variatif menghidangkan makanan
Tidak perlu banyak-banyak memesan makanan, yang penting bervariasi. Daripada terlalu banyak menaruh makanan di meja prasmanan utama. Akan lebih baik membuat banyak tempat makanan kecil-kecil yang terpisah dengan hidangan yang berbeda-beda. Selain mengurangi antrian, para undangan juga tidak akan merasa kehabisan makanan karena bervariasinya hidangan.

5. Masih bisa didiskon
Walaupun Anda memilih harga paket, tidak usah sungkan untuk minta diskon. Atau ketika memesan katering, walaupun harganya sudah jelas tertera di brosur, bukan berarti tidak bisa didiskon lho. Negosiasi saja dengan pengelola kateringnya untuk diberikan diskon. Dan perhatikan dengan baik kredibilitas pengelola katering, karena Anda tidak bisa betul-betul menghitung apakah porsi yang dihidangkan sesuai dengan pesanan.

Being disc jockeys, we get the opportunity to evaluate many reception facilities while having little or no bias to "sell" one location over another. Most Brides and Grooms know where they will be holding the ceremony before they decide where to have the reception, so we have compiled five observations that can help you when selecting your venue.

Distance - If people have to drive a long way to get from the ceremony to the reception, some will get distracted or decide to do something else. Try to keep the reception within a 15 to 30 minute drive of your ceremony. If it is not possible to get a reception hall close to your ceremony, make a caravan. Have the Bride and Groom lead the parade, and people will follow you to your reception.

Time - Time is just like the distance issue. If your reception is several hours after the ceremony, people will get busy doing other things and not show up for the reception. Try to start the reception within an hour or two of the ceremony. If you don't want to start your wedding dance at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, have a Meet and Greet mixer before your reception. Serve some punch and get people to mingle. This will be one of the few times that both families will be together. Encourage family members to share stories about your childhoods.

Size - People like their personal space, and they have most likely spent an hour packed into a church for your ceremony. If you let them spread out, they will enjoy themselves more. Make sure your reception hall has plenty of room for your guests. The people renting the location might tell you it holds 200 people, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will hold 200 people comfortably! Make sure to visit the venue before booking.

Climate Control - Having a summer wedding? Is your reception hall air conditioned? If people sweat while just sitting, they won't dance. On the flip side, if they are cold they won't dance either (who wants to dance in a parka?). Also make sure you know who has control of the thermostat so the temperature can be adjusted if needed. Chances are your reception will be warm and stuffy while all the guest are there, but as they trickle out during the night the room will begin to cool down.

Smoking - This is a hot button issue, but if your reception hall is non-smoking, you can fully expect smoker's to leave your reception for 15-30 minutes every hour. If enough of them leave the reception area, you may find a large percentage of your guest just hanging out in the smoking area. This can be a big problem if you have many smokers in your wedding party. You don't have to allow smoking, but it is something you should consider, especially if anyone has any health problems like asthma or allergies that could be triggered by smoke. If you decide not to allow smoking in the reception area, how close is the nearest place for a smoker to go? Is it close enough that you will be able to get needed wedding party members during events like the bouquet toss or garter auction?

Facility coordinators will no doubt bring up several other factors for you to consider when you interview them for your booking, but these are often missed items, especially if they don't favor the potential venue. If you keep the overall picture in mind and work with your wedding planner or event coordinator on the decorating ideas, you will no doubt have an enjoyable and memorable wedding reception.

Menurut adat Hindu Bali, pernikahan dilakukan di rumah calon pengantin laki-laki pada hari yang dianggap baik oleh pendeta Hindu Bali. Biasanya pengantin baru tinggal bersama keluarga laki-laki dalam satu pekarangan rumah.

Ada dua macam pernikahan, yaitu ‘kawin lari’, dan ‘kawin ngidih’. Kawin lari (cara kuno di Bali bagian Timur), di mana perempuan meninggalkan rumahnya untuk menikah tanpa pengetahuan orangtuanya, sudah agak jarang dilakukan. Cara pernikahan yang umum dilaksanakan dewasa ini adalah kawin ngidih, di mana pihak laki-laki meminta kepada orangtua pihak perempuan.
Kawin lari

Pada hari yang telah disetujui oleh pasangan calon pengantin, laki-laki atau orang lain yang dimintai tolong, menjemput si perempuan dan membawanya ke rumah salah satu kerabat atau temannya untuk disembunyikan paling sedikit selama tiga hari atau sampai orang tua pihak perempuan mengakui bahwa anak gadisnya telah menikah.

Selanjutnya, empat orang mewakili pihak laki-laki untuk menyampaikan pesan kepada orangtua bahwa anak gadisnya telah pergi untuk menikah. Kelian banjar dari pihak keluarga perempuan ikut untuk menyampaikan pesan tersebut. Mereka membawa lampu sebagai simbul penerangan dan surat pernyataan dari calon pasangan pengantin bahwa mereka menikah atas dasar cinta dan tanpa paksaan pihak manapun.

Apabila orangtua si perempuan menerima bahwa anaknya telah dilarikan dan akan menikah dengan laki-laki pilihannya, mereka menentukan kapan wakil dari pihak laki-laki bisa datang kembali ke rumahnya untuk menyelesaikan masalah pernikahan ini.
Kawin ngidih

Pada hari yang telah disepakati bersama, keluarga dan kerabat dekat pihak laki-laki datang ke rumah pihak perempuan untuk menyampaikan keinginan mereka untuk menikahkan anak laki-lakinya dengan anak gadis dari pihak perempuan. Kemudian mereka akan menetapkan satu hari untuk mengumpulkan seluruh keluarga dari pihak perempuan dan meminta keluarga laki-laki dan kerabat dekatnya untuk datang kembali untuk melamar dan membicarakan tatalaksana upacara pernikahan. Setelah kesepakatan tercapai, calon pengantin perempuan dibawa ke rumah calon pengantin laki-laki.
Pawiwahan (upacara) tiga hari

Setelah tiga hari berada di rumah pihak laki-laki atau persembunyian, calon pengantin baru akan diupacarai dengan sesajen yang dituntun oleh pemangku (pendeta dari keluarga Sudra) untuk mengesahkan perkawinan tersebut secara agama Hindu Bali. Upacara ini hanya dihadiri oleh keluarga dekat pasangan pengantin atau pihak laki-laki saja kalau memakai cara kawin lari.
Pawiwahan di sanggah (pura keluarga)

Pada hari yang telah disepakati dan ditunjuk oleh pendeta Brahmana, upacara yang lebih besar dilaksanakan di sanggah pihak laki-laki. Makna upacara ini adalah untuk menyampaikan kepada para leluhur yang bersemayam di sanggah itu, bahwa ada satu pendatang baru yang akan menjadi anggota keluarga dan akan melanjutkan keturunannya.

Dalam kawin ngidih semua anggota banjar dari pihak laki-laki dan seluruh keluarga besar dari pihak perempuan dan para undangan lainnya menyaksikan upacara ini. Sedangkan dalam kawin lari, keluarga atau kerabat dekat dari pihak perempuan tidak terlibat. Undangannya bisa mencapai ratusan orang.

Upacara ini biasanya dilanjutkan dengan pelaksanaan upacara mepamit (perpisahan) yang akan dilakukan di sanggah pihak keluarga pengantin perempuan. Makna dari upacara ini adalah untuk minta pamit kepada para leluhur karena sekarang telah menikah dan menjadi milik dan tanggung jawab keluarga laki-laki.

Pada umumnya semua biaya upacara perkawinan ditanggung oleh keluarga pihak laki-laki termasuk untuk upacara Mepamit yang dilakukan di rumah orangtua perempuan. Anggota banjar menyediakan sebagian bahan makanan untuk pesta atau bahan upacara, dan para tamu udangan membawa hadiah untuk pengantin baru.

Sundanese Wedding Ceremony

The bridal party is welcomed with the umbul-umbul at the house where the celebrations will take place. The umbul-umbul indicates that a wedding ceremony is going on.
Harupat - 7 miniature broomsticks are burnt and thrown away symbolizing the discarding of bad habits.
Ajug - seven candles, represents the direction the couple should follow to ensure a happy married life.
Elekon - hollow bamboo, which symbolizes emptiness is broken.
Kendi - an earthen water jug filled with water, which stands for peace.The bride and groom are seated under an umbrella in front of the entrance to the house.
Then a sawer is showered on the couple. It consists of:

Turmeric rice - Rice is a sign of prosperity and yellow stands for everlasting love.
Coins - To remind the couple to share their wealth with the less fortunate.
Candy - Indicates sweetness and fragrance throughout their marriage.
A betel nut set near the couple is a reminder that their different customs should not spoil their harmonious marriage.

Nincak Endog.
The groom breaks an egg with his right foot. Breaking the egg is a symbol that the husband will give the wife a child to continue the family generation.
After the egg is broken, the bride washes the groom's foot with the water from the kendi.
Then the bride throws the kendi to break it.

Huap Lingkung
Symbolic of the last time the parents will feed their children. This is also the first dish prepared by the daughter in her new home. The dish consists of turmeric sticky rice with yellow spiced chicken on top of it.
The mothers of the bride and groom release two white doves - symbols of peace and happiness.

Patarik-Tarik Bakakak
The couple are given a spiced chicken. On hearing the word 'go' from the lady conducting the ceremony, the couple has to pull the chicken apart.
The one who get the larger piece supposedly will bring in the larger share of the family fortune.
This ceremony also serves to remind the couple to encourage each other to work hard together to gain good fortune.

Javanese Wedding Ceremonies

PANGGIH Ceremony:
The wonderful and mystical sound of Gamelan (a Javanese music instruments) accompanies a traditional sacred Panggih or Temu (means meeting) between a beautiful bride with her handsome bridegroom in front of a house decorated with 'Tarub' plant decoration.

The bridegroom, accompanied by his close relatives (but not his parents who are not allowed to be present during the ritual), arrives at the house of the bride's parents and stops at the gate of the house.

The bride, accompanied by two elderly women, walks out of the bridal room. Her parents and close relatives walk behind her. Preceding the bride are two young girls, Patah, holding a fan. Two elderly women or two young boys are carrying two Kembar Mayang (bouquet ornament), about one meter of height. One woman from the bridegroom's family walks forward and gives a Sanggan (a gift in the form of banana fruits and flowers put in a tray covered with banana leaves) to the mother of the bride, as a sign of appreciation to the hostess of the ceremony.

During the Panggih ceremony, the Kembar Mayang are brought outside the house and thrown away in a crossroad nearby the house, depicting all evil spirits should not disturb the ceremony in the house and its surrounding area. For decoration, one pair has been put on the right and left side of the couple's wedding chair during the reception. Kembar Mayang is used only if the couple was unmarried before.

BALANGAN SURUH Ceremony:
The bride is meeting the bridegroom. They approach each other. When they are about three meters from each other, they start throwing to each other seven small bundles of betel leaves with lime inside tied together with white yarn. They do it eagerly and happily, everyone is smiling happy. According to ancient belief, betel leaves have the power to chase away bad spirits. By throwing betel leaves to each other, it should be proved that they are really the genuine persons, not some ghost or another person who pretends to be the bride or the bridegroom.

WIJI DADI Ceremony:
The bridegroom crashes a chicken egg with his right foot. The bride washes the bridegroom's foot using water mixed with several kinds of flowers. It depicts that the bridegroom is ready to become a responsible father and the bride should faithfully serve her husband.

SINDUR BINAYANG Ceremony:
After the ritual of Wiji Dadi, the father of the bride leads the couple to the wedding chair, the mother of the bride covers the couple's shoulders with Sindur.

TIMBANG Ceremony:
Both the bride and the bridegroom are sitting on the bride's father's lap, while he says that they have the same weight, meaning that he loves them both equally.

TANEM Ceremony:
The bride's father seats the couple in the wedding chair. It depicts that he approves the marriage. He gives his blessing.

TUKAR KALPIKA Ceremony:
Exchange of wedding rings as a sign of love.

KACAR KUCUR or TAMPA KAYA Ceremony:
With the help of the Pemaes, the couple walks arm in arm, or more precisely holding each other with their little finger, to the site of the ritual. There, the bride gets from the bridegroom some soybeans, peanuts, paddy rice, corns, yellow rice, herbs, flowers and coins of different values (the quantity of the coins must be even). It depicts that the husband should give all his income to his wife. The bride carefully receives these gifts in a small white cloth, above an old mat that has been put on her lap. She should be a good and caring housewife.

DAHAR KLIMAH or DAHAR KEMBUL Ceremony:
The wedding couple is eating together, feeding each other. The Pemaes, as the leader of the ceremony, gives a plate to the bride with yellow rice, fried eggs, soybean, tempe, and fried meat. First, the bridegroom makes three small balls of rice with his right hand and gives it to the bride. After the bride has eaten, she will do the same for the bridegroom. When they are finished, they drink sweet tea. The ritual depicts the couple should use and enjoy their belongings together.

MERTUI Ceremony:
The bride's parents pick up the parents of the bridegroom in front of the house. They walk together to the place of the ceremony. The mothers walk in front, the fathers behind. The parents of the bridegroom sit on the left side of the couple. The parents of the bride sit on the right side of the couple.

SUNGKEMAN Ceremony:
While they kneel, the couple will ask for the blessing of their parents: first from the parents of the bride, then from the parents of the bridegroom. During the Sungkeman, the Pemaes takes out the keris from the bridegroom. After the ritual, the bridegroom wears again his keris.
It should be noted that the couple's parents are wearing the same design of batik (Truntum), meaning the couple should always have enough fortune for a good living. They are also wearing Sindur as waist sash. The red drawing in the Sindur with its curved edges means that life is like a river running through the mountains. The parents are escorting the newlyweds to the real life so they can build a strong family.

Ijab Ceremony

This great tradition, inherited from ancient time, is strongly preserved by the people.

The Ijab Ceremony is the most important requirement to legalise a marriage. The implementation is in accordance with the religion of the couple. At the place where the Ijab is conducted, a Sanggan or Sajen offering is put.

The bride wears traditional make-up and bun (gelungan), shining brilliant, golden jewellery's and a special dress for this occasion. The bridegroom also wears a special dress for this ceremony. The couple has to appear on their best.

They are honoured by those who are present at this wedding party as King and Queen of the day.

Peningsetan (Srah-Srahan)

Peningsetan or Srah-Srahan is derived from the word singset (meaning to tie up). The families of both sides have to agree on the wedding. The parents should become 'in-laws'. The family of the would-be-bridegroom visit the parents and the family of the would-be-bride. They are bringing some gifts:

A set of Suruh Ayu (beautiful betel leaves), wishing for safety.
Several batik cloths with different patterns, wishing for happiness and the best things in life.
Materials for Kebaya (women shirts).
White waist sash for women as a sign of a strong willingness.
Fruits, wishing a good health.
Rice, sugar, salt, cooking oil, etc. symbolising the basic needs in life.
A set of rings for the couple.
Some money as a contribution for the wedding ceremony.

On this occasion, both families should make acquaintance to each other in a more relaxed atmosphere. Only the would-be-bridegroom cannot visit the would-be-bride in the attractively decorated wedding room.

In fact, the would-be-bridegroom arrives together with his family, but he is not entitled to enter the house. While his family is inside the house, he sits in the veranda of the house accompanied by some friends or relatives. During that time, he is only given a glass of water, and he is not allowed to smoke. He may eat only after midnight. It is a lesson that he must be able to resist hunger and temptation.

Before his family leaves the house, the parents tell that they hand over the would-be-bridegroom to the responsibility of the host and the hostess.

After the visitors have left the house, the would-be-bridegroom is allowed to enter the house but not the wedding room. This is called Nyantri. It is done for safety and practical reason, considering that tomorrow he has to be dressed and prepared for Ijab and the other wedding ceremonies.

Midodareni Ceremony

This ceremony takes place in the eve of Ijab and Panggih ceremonies. Midodareni is derived from the word Widodari meaning goddess. That evening, the would-be-bride becomes as beautiful as a goddess. According to ancient belief, goddesses should visit her from heaven.

The bride has to stay in the room from 6.00 p.m. to midnight accompanied by some elder women giving her useful advice. The family of the would-be-bridegroom and her very close friends should also visit her for a while; all of them must be women.

The bride's parents should feed her for the last time. As from tomorrow, she is at her husband's responsibility.
Items that are put in the wedding room:

One set of Kembar Mayang (identical palm blossoms).

Two earthenware vases (filled with spices, medical herbs, rice, peanuts etc.) covered with Bango Tulak cloths.

Two kendi's (filled with holy water) covered with dadap srep leaves.

A tray with several kinds of perfumed leaves and flowers (Ukub) put under the bed.

Betel leaves (Suruh Ayu).

Areca nut.

Seven kinds of cloths with letrek design.

The offering can be taken out of the room at midnight, so that the family and guests can eat it. Outside the room, the family and close friends of the would-be-bride meet with the family of the would-be-bridegroom.

Siraman Ceremony

Siraman means to take a bath. For the couple in the wedding ritual, it means to become clean, their bodies as well as their souls. The Siraman ceremony is usually organised in the afternoon, one day before the Ijab and Panggih rituals. Siraman of the would-be-bride is conducted in her parents' residence. For the would-be-bridegroom, it is conducted in his parents' residence. The place of the Siraman is usually in the family bathroom or in a place specially designed for this purpose (garden). Nowadays the second alternative is more common. The list of persons bathing the couple is important too. Besides the parents, some elderly and distinguished women are invited. They are selected on their good moral behaviour. The number of people giving Siraman is usually limited to seven. Seven in Javanese is Pitu, so they are giving Pitulungan (meaning help).

Several items have to be prepared:

A big bowl, usually made of copper or bronze, filled with water from a well or a spring.

Setaman flowers - rose, jasmine, magnolia and cananga - to be put in the water.

Colourful powder - five colours - functioning as soap.

Traditional shampoo and conditioner (ashes of rice straw, coconut milk and tamarind juice).

Two coconuts, tied up together, to be used as a water dipper (gayung).

A small chair, covered with: old mat - white cloth - several kind of plant leaves - dlingo benglé herbs (plant used in medicines) - bango tulak cloths (four patterns) - lurik (striped woven materials with Yuyu Sekandang and Pula Watu design).

White cotton cloth to be worn during Siraman.

Batik cloth of Grompol and Nagasari design.

Kendi - earthenware flask with a neck and a spout.

The family of the would-be-bride should send an envoy to the family of the would-be-bridegroom, bringing a small bowl of water and flowers. This holy water, called Banyu Suci Perwitosari (symbolising the essence of life) should be poured in the water in the bridegroom's house.

The execution of SIRAMAN:
The would-be-bride/bridegroom comes from her/his room accompanied by the parents. She/he is escorted to the place of Siraman. Some people walk behind them, carrying a tray of batik cloths, towels etc. She/he is seated on the chair. A prayer is offered. The first person to bath her/him is the father. After him comes the mother. Only after them, other (usually older and respected) people can do the ritual.
She/he sits, with both hands in front of the chest, in praying position. They pour water on her/his hands and she/he rinses the mouth three times. Then, they pour water on the head, face, ears, neck, hands and feet three times each. The last person to bath her/him is the Pemaes or a special person assigned. She uses the traditional shampoo and powder to clean her/him. When the Kendi is empty, the Pemaes or the person assigned breaks the kendi on the floor saying: 'Wis Pecah Pamore' - meaning that she/he is handsome (beautiful, is a grown-up now, ready to get married).

NGERIK Ceremony:
After the Siraman, the bride is lead to the wedding room. Her hair is dried with a towel and smoke of perfumed powder (ratus) is passed over her hair. It is combed backwards and strongly tied up in a bun (gelung). After her face and her neck are cleaned, make-up is put on by the Pemaes. At the end, the would-be-bride is dressed with a traditional woman's blouse (kebaya) and batik cloths with a Sidomukti or a Sidoasih design. It symbolises a prosperous life and adoration by other people.

Sajen

Before the installation of Tarub and Bekletepe, a special Sajen (offering) must be made.

Traditional Sajen (offering) in Javanese ritual is considered very important. The symbolic meaning of the Sajen is to get blessings from the ancestors (for their souls should live in peace eternally) and to get protection against evil spirits. The Sajen should be placed in all the places where a ceremony takes place, such as in the bathroom, in the kitchen, under the gate, under the Tarub decoration, in the street nearby the house etc.

Normally Sajen consists of:

Tumpeng Robyong, a yellow rice cone with decoration.
Tumpeng Gundul, a yellow rice cone with no decoration.
Chicken, meat, tempe, bread and eggs.
Seven kinds of porridge.
Fresh fruit: bananas and other fruits.
A peeled coconut and some coconut sugar.
Sweet cookies made of glutinous rice.
Tea and coffee.
Cigar and pipe made of papaya leave.
Jamu (herbal medicine).
A lantern, which is lighted.
Telon flowers (cananga, jasmine, magnolia) in bowl filled with holy water.

Kembar Mayang

Kembar Mayang is a kind of bouquet made of different kind of leaves (mainly coconut leaves stuck into a banana trunk). It is a very beautiful decoration with a broad symbolic meaning:

It has a mountain like shape: A mountain is high and big, symbolising a man should have a lot of knowledge, experience and patience.
Keris (kris, double-bladed dagger): The couple should be careful in life.
Whips: The couple should be always optimistic with the desire to have a good life.
Umbrellas: The couple must protect their family.
Grasshoppers: The couple should be energetic, quick in thinking and making decisions in order to keep the family safe.
Birds: The couple should have a high life-motivation.
Beringin (banyan tree) leaves: The couple should always protect the family and other human beings.
Kruton leaves: The leaves protect them against evil spirits.
Dadap srep leaves: The leaves could be used as a cold compress to lower fever, symbolising the couple should always have a clear mind and calmness to solve any problems (calm down the feeling and cool down the head).
Dlingo Benglé herbs: These herbs cure infection and other diseases; they are used to get protection against evil spirits.
Patra Manggala flowers: Used to beautify the bouquet.

Tarub Decoration

Usually one day before the wedding party, the gate of the house of the bride's parents is decorated with Tarub (plant decorations), which consists of different Tuwuhan (plants and leaves).

Two banana trees with stem of ripe bananas meaning: The husband will be a good leader of his family. As banana trees grow easily everywhere, the couple can also live well and happy everywhere, in good terms with the environment.
A pair of Tebu Wulung (reddish sugar cane) meaning: The whole family comes together with a strong and a wise mind.
A Cengkir Gading (half-ripe coconut) meaning: The couple loves each other and they always will take care of their loved ones.
Different fresh leaves, such as of beringin (banyan tree), mojo-koro, alang-alang (tall, coarse grass), dadap srep (flowering trees) meaning: the couple should live in safety and protect the family.

On top of this, on the gate you will find bekletepe (ornaments made from plaited coconut leaves) to drive out evil spirits and as a sign that a wedding ceremony takes place in this house.

The PEMAES and the WEDDING COMMITTEE:

A complete Javanese wedding ceremony has several complicated traditional rituals. In that event, the role of a Pemaes, a traditional make-up woman who leads the whole ceremony, is very important. She takes care of the make-up and dressing of the bride and bridegroom, the different kind of offerings, the different kind of ceremonies during the event, etc. Usually, she can also lend a complete wedding dress, ornaments and equipment necessary for a wedding party.

The wedding party should be prepared carefully as it contains many things to do, no matter which ceremony is chosen. A small wedding committee of close relatives and friends from both families is set up. The size depends on how big the party has to be and on how many guests will be invited (300, 500, 1000 or more guests). In fact, a wedding ceremony is a big show, reflecting the families' standing in the society.

This committee has to organise the whole wedding: the wedding protocol, food and beverages, gamelan music and dance, decoration of the reception hall, master of ceremony, witnesses for Ijab, welcoming speech during the reception, transportation, communication, security, and so on. The most important thing to prepare is no doubt the execution of Ijab (the religious and civil registration which legalises the couple as legitimate husband and wife).

Javanese Wedding

Indonesia has many diverse cultures (an estimated number of 300 cultures and languages, among 200 million Indonesians, living on 13.677 different islands). This enormous variety in cultures has a great impact on marriage ceremonies. Every wedding in Indonesia has a different ceremony, each of them influenced by the cultures of the families involved. Every ceremony is a step in the creation of a new bound between two families.
The parents of the man (would-be-bridegroom) send an envoy to the parents of the woman (would-be-bride), proposing that their son is willing to marry their daughter. Nowadays, for practical reasons, the parents of both sides can talk directly. The parents of the couple have to approve the marriage.

Step 1
Ask yourself how many people are going to come to your wedding. The best way to figure this out is to take the total amount of wedding invitations you sent out and then figure that about half to three-quarters of the invited guests will actually attend. Sesuai standar internasional, sisihkan 40% dari total anggaran untuk keperluan catering. Sisanya sebanyak 60% dapat anda gunakan untuk 6 keperluan utama lainnya, yaitu gedung, acara dan MC, dokumentasi, dekorasi, bridal attire (baju dan tata riasnya) serta undangan dan suvenir.

3. Menentukan gedung
Saatnya menentukan lokasi dan gedung yang akan digunakan. Jika sudah terlanjur menentukan pada satu gedung yang bernuansa romantis tapi kapasitasnya tidak terlalu besar, bagilah undangan dalam 2 waktu yang berbeda. Misalnya jam 19.00-20.00 untuk orangtua dan 20.00-21.00 untuk teman-teman anda dan pasangan.

4. Menentukan gaya dan tema pesta
Demi keserasian pesta, anda harus menentukan tema, sehingga anda dan pasangan dapat menentukan kebaya atau gaun dan jas seperti yang akan dikenakan pada saat pesta berlangsung.
Padukan warna gaun dan dekorasi dengan warna yang sesuai dengan karakter anda berdua. Gaya dan pesta ini biasanya juga akan tampak pada menu makanan, suvenir dan undangan.

5. Lakukan perawatan diri
Bila 4 hal penting diatas sudah dilakukan, kini saatnya melakukan perawatan diri mulai dari lulur, mandi rempah, perawatan wajah, dan pusat kebugaran agar pada saat pernikahan nanti tampil prima. Perawatan diri ini sebaiknya dilakukan oleh kedua mempelai sehingga agar keduanya bisa tampil prima saat pesta pernikahan digelar.
